On August 4, 2016, the Department of Islamic Economics FEB Unair gained the addition of a new doctorate, the 10th doctorate in the Department of Sharia Economics. The new doctor is Dr. Dr. Atina Shofawati who was inaugurated as a doctor in the Open Examination of Islamic Economics Doctoral Program, Graduate School of Airlangga University on Thursday, August 4, 2016. In the open examination. Atina Shofawati successfully defended her dissertation entitled “The Influence of Islamic Banking System on Financing Structure and Performance and Health of Islamic Bank in Indonesia”.
Dr. Atina Shofawati in his dissertation found a pattern of relationship between customer’s mindset to financing structure in syariah bank that can impact on performance and health of syariah bank in Indonesia. Results of research Dr. Atina Shofawati pointed out that sharia bank financing contract which is dominated by murabahah contract is caused by the conventional mindset of customers that still use the interest mindset in doing financing transactions. This happens because the customer still considers the same between the murabaha margin and interest, and murabaha contract is the most easily conformed with the financing contract in a conventional bank based on interest. Akad murabaha which dominates the financing contract structure in syariah bank has a tendency to increase non performing financing (NPF) in syariah bank. NPF figures in syariah bank to benchmark the performance of banks and also health, so that the structure of financing in Islamic banks will have a positive influence on the performance and health of Islamic banks.
